The data layer is intended to capture those portions of Loudoun County that have been examined professionally for the presence or potential presence of surface or subsurface archaeological remains or sites. Data were compiled from cultural resource management reports submitted to Loudoun County or the Virginia Department of Historic Resources typically in response to local, state, and/or federal requirements or in association with independent research initiatives. Source material was digitized from study area maps included in submitted reports. Digital data from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources has also been incorporated in certain cases where available and, as appropriate, amended or edited to more closely conform with actual project boundaries. A COL-ID number (County of Loudoun ID) is used to identify the report associated with each survey polygon. Each survey polygon also identifies the study type (whether Phase I, Phase IA/Reconnaissance, Phase II, Phase III, or Cemetery Boundary Delineation) and contains the report title, report author(s), report author(s)’s affiliation, report date (month, year), associated Loudoun County land development application number and name, associated Virginia Department of Historic Resources project review file number, and information regarding the agency, individual, and date of data digitization. For specific survey methodologies, the user must consult the individual survey reports.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
