Before you submit a proposed name for a street or road in Loudoun County, use this tool to check your proposal against the county’s naming standards.
The Loudoun County Office of Mapping and Geographic Information will conduct a final review and approve of all proposed street or road names.
This tool will help ensure that the suggested name conforms to the county’s standards as specified in this ordinance (Chapter 1020):
The standards prohibit:
Duplicate existing or reserved street names
Duplicate words (example: Bicycle Bicycle)
Special characters (%, &, #, *, !, etc)
A total character length of greater than twenty (20)
More than two (2) words
Compass points or abbreviations (North, Southwest, N.E., etc)
Street types like drive, way, lane, etc.
Consist of the first and last name of an individual
'Old' or 'New' cannot be added before a street name that already exists (e.g. 'Old King' is not allowed because “King” exists as a street name)
Further, streets may not be named for the following:
A Confederate leader or the Confederate cause.
Individuals or movements that promoted racial segregation in Virginia during the Jim Crow (1896-1965) or Massive Resistance to desegregation (1954-1959) eras.
