Abstract:

Show the location of major powerlines.

Purpose:

Major Powerlines are used to show the spatial location of major high tension overhead powerlines in Loudoun County, VA. This feature class/shapefile is for the Homeland Infrastructure Foundation Level Database (HIFLD) https://gii.dhs.gov/HIFLD as well as the Energy modelling and simulation community and contains Electric Power Transmission lines in the U.S. greater than or equal to 100 volts. It has been modified to include new line additions built after the dataset was published. Dataset was modified in February 2025 to include transmission line segments that have been approved by Virginia’s State Corporation Commission (SCC) but not built.

Supplemental Information:

Data are stored in the corporate ArcSDE Geodatabase as a line feature class. The coordinate system is Virginia State Plane (North), Zone 4501, datum NAD83 HARN.

Maintenance and Update Frequency:

Not expected to be updated unless a new powerline is built or approved. Date of last update: February 2025
