Abstract:

This data set is a digital representation of the architectural resources that are documented by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. At this time, not all resources that have been surveyed at the reconnaisance or intensive level have been digitized. The attributes are a very limited subset of the information that may be found in the hardcopy files and/or in the Data Sharing System (DSS).

Purpose:

The mission of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources is to identify, evaluate, register, and help communities and citizens preserve, interpret, and use Virginia's rich historic assets for the economic, educational and cultural benefit of all. The purpose of this data set is to provide a geographic representation of the location of each documented architectural resources in the state of Virginia.
